"... how to keep our best in mind."
Arbogast on Film —
This is my first look at this year's "TCM Remembers" montage of images of actors, directors, writers and other film personalities who died in 2008. Right off, I was touched they worked Robert DoQui in so early and shocked by the (unknown to me 'til now) double tragedy of the loss of BLACK ORPHEUS stars Breno Mello and Marpessa Dawn within a few weeks of one another this past summer. This version is actually an update, which shoehorns in Van Johnson, but still neglects Beverly Garland and Robert Prosky. There are always omissions with these things and I understand that TCM can only fit in so many names but the absense of Garland in particular is particularly unfortunate.

VOTD: TCM Remembers 2008
/Film —
Turner Classic Movies put together a beautiful video montage remembering the actors, actresses, directors, writers, producers, and musicians that we lost in 2008. Eartha Kitt was probably not included because this was edited before her death. The song is “God Only Knows” by Joe Henry. ...
Watch This: TCM's Tribute to the Departed of 2008
Cinematical —
Every December, Turner Classic Movies produces a lovely montage honoring the actors and filmmakers who died that year, and here's the one for 2008. Apparently they released it around Dec. 10, then updated it to include Van Johnson, who died Dec. 15, but now it's incomplete again because Eartha Kitt died. Maybe they should wait until the year's actually over? I'm just sayin'. ...
Turner Classic's Classy 2008 Tribute
Get The Big Picture —
Though it hasn't been updated to reflect the passing of Eartha Kitt, here's the impeccable 2008 Turner Classic Movies tribute to the stars and artists we lost in the past year. There are, of course, many heavyweights - Newman, Carlin, Ledger, Heston - and then there are some you might not recognize simply by their names, but then you see them on screen and an old memory becomes a new one. ...
TCM Breathes Life into Tribute to Departed Stars
:: The Playlist :: —
Maybe it's just us but we always have found the Academy Awards tribute to the year's deceased to be a bit dull [ed. heresy!] . Luckily, Turner Classic Movies produces a poetic and touching montage every December that does justice to the subject. Unfortunately Eartha Kitt wasn't included due to the time it was made. Make sure and pour a little bit of your 40 on the block tonight for Catwoman, or at least put out some Fancy Feast. ...
R.I.P. 2008: A Rough Year For Hollywood
Screen Rant —
For me, the only part of the Oscars worth watching every year is their tribute video, highlighting those in the movie industry that passed away in the previous year. It always puts a lump in my throat and often surprises me due to the passing of people I hadn’t heard about. And with the actors who were popular decades ago, it gives me a sense of melancholy nostalgia.
TCM (Turner Classic Movies) has put together their version of a tribute video which you can watch below, and it gave me the same feelings I just mentioned (I wasn’t aware they do one every year). It’s a beautiful video and very classy. They did miss a couple of people which I ...

Hey guys, (Geez, ScriptGirl's really busting out today, isn't she?) Let me say I am overwhelmed by the e-mails I’m getting in response to my "Character Arc" article in Script Magazine. A frickin’ tidal wave of correspondence has flooded my inbox. I honestly wasn’t expecting this. Even the Hotmail people sent me a message titled “WTF is going on with your inbox?” So if I have not responded to your e-mail, take heart, I will get to you. And I will try to respond to all the e-mails. And I will respond to all the comments on my blog. I ...
