Saturday Morning WATCHMEN!?!?!
Ain't It Cool News - The best in movie, TV, DVD, and comic book news. —
Hey folks, Harry here... The following, I don't believe is part of the Viral campaign - though it may be. Whatever it is - it is the most nightmarishly hilarious critique of bad Saturday Morning adaptations of comic properties that I've seen. What do you guys think? Would you Watch These Watchmen?
Links for the Day (March 6th, 2009)
The House Next Door —
1. It's Watchmen day, kiddos. Watch (LOLZ!) for some takes from House contributors in the days to come. The video above is apparently part of the film's genuinely fascinating viral marketing campaign (which, honestly, may end up being more fascinating than the film itself), which has also included this and this. America's few remaining paid critics are sharply divided. The Internet seems less conflicted. Ebert raves, Anthony Lane goes a bit nuclear, and Dana Stevens (quoted below) ...
VOTD: Saturday Morning Watchmen
/Film —
Watchmen was thought to be an unfilmable graphic novel. What if Warner Bros didn’t get the movie off the ground, and Fox instead turned the comic book property into a Saturday Morning Cartoon Show? Harry Partridge (HappyHarry) has taken that idea and ran with it. Watch Saturday Morning Watchmen after the jump. ...
Laika to live on and hopefully delivered lots more 3-D animated fun
Reel Fanatic —
Actually, before I get into any of that, it's that time of year, so there are a lot of TV "bubble" reports out there. The most surprising name I found on more than one of them was "Chuck," a show I just assumed was safe. ...

Excellent job by YouTube user Harry Partridge for accurately depciting what Watchmen would look like as a Saturday Morning Cartoon.

Who Watches the Watchmen?
Dave's Blog About Movies and Such —
When Zack Snyder was announced as the Watchmen director, I was concerned that the director of two questionable previous features (a mediocre remake of a quintesential horror film, and the world's first homophobic slow-mo gay porn epic), would be adapting for the screen the Citizen Kane of comic books. Although I am not a comic book geek, I do quite admire Alan Moore's novel. And, like many other people, I would like to see it done justice. That being said, although I haven't seen the movie yet, I still hold out hope that, in the very least, it will be an entertaining flick. ...
WATCHMEN: THE ANIMATED SERIES
Reel Talk —
I don't know where this video came from, but I almost fell out of my chair laughing after I watched the clip. Between the cheesy early-80s Saturday morning animation and the wonderfully-dated theme song, not to mention the homages to Scooby-Doo and Jem! of all shows, this is one Watchmen item for the books.
Count me in as a viewer if Cartoon Network greenlights the series.

This is brilliant (if you’ve read the graphic novel). Thanks to The House Next Door.

It must be nice to have a minimum-wage job that allows you to express a little fanboy snark. Over on his personal blog, sci-fi writer John Scalzi shared this photo of a Seattle theater's ever-so-slightly spoilerish marquee (see above). You can't have a movie event with a high profile like Watchmen without a lot of fans making with the funny. Following the picture's (triumphant or disappointing, depending on your view) release to theaters, the Internets have seen the expected slew of geek-driven parody. There's the inevitable Mac vs. PC/Marvel vs. DC gags, the sort-of-funny ...
Due To The Success Of WATCHMEN...
Sex In A Submarine —
Okay, one of the screenwriters of WATCHMEN is *begging* fans to see it again this weekend... and the numbers crunchers are looking at the drop off from Friday to Saturday to Sunday last weekend and think bad word of mouth is at work. On message boards, fans are hating every single minor change while others (okay, that's me) are wondering why they didn't *adapt* the damned thing so that it works as a movie. Can't please *anyone* with this film - and the LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT remake is giving off a strong TAKEN vibe, and you know how well that little French film did... ...
Home-Made Hollywood: An Interview With Clive Young (Part One)
Confessions of an Aca/Fan —
In the past few weeks, I've been struck again at the ways fandoms now often precede rather than follow the release of a major motion picture. (See my discussion in Convergence Culture of how a fan community grew up around Global Frequency -- a television pilot which never reached the air.) Fan filmmakers may immediately begin responding to, remixing, critiquing, and spoofing a film largely on the basis of its trailer. This is especially true when the film is based on a text which already has a cult following in another medium. Consider these two examples of fan films produced in reaction to Watchmen, which I ended up sharing ...
Transmedia Storytelling and Entertainment -- A Syllabus
Confessions of an Aca/Fan —
Given the interest out there in transmedia or cross-media entertainment, I thought I would share the syllabus for the course I am teaching this fall at the University of Southern California. I am still shifting some details, as I deal with the scheduling of guest speakers, but all of the speakers listed have agreed to come. The readings are a good starter set for people wanting to do more thinking on this emerging area of research. I will be sharing reflections about the course material here throughout the fall, since I'm sure working through these readings in a class context is going to spark me to do some fresh thinking on the topic. I'd love to hear ...
