Tom Shadyac (“Patch Adams,” “Dragonfly,” “Bruce Almighty,” “Evan Almighty”), who has been trying for nearly a decade to launch the project as a big-screen feature, is directing. HBO is developing a new TV movie on the life of comedian Sam Kinison. Tom Shadyac (Evan Almighty, Patch Adams) will direct the film, titled Brother Sam, and Dan Fogler (Balls of Fury) will portray Kinison.
A former revival-style preacher, Kinison got his start with an appearance on HBO’s Rodney Dangerfield-hosted Young Comedians special in 1984. He was famous for his extremely vitriolic humor and his standup routines were most often characterized by intense, angry ranting and punctuated by his trademark scream.

Variety is reporting today that actor Dan Fogler has signed on to play comedian Sam Kinison in the HBO production Brother Sam, a biopic of the comedian’s life and career — a career that was jump started by HBO. The film will be based on “Brother Sam: The Short, Spectacular Life of Sam Kinison,” a memoir written by his brother and manager, Bill Kinison, and Steve Delsohn.
