The good news is, there are finally some new releases in theatres this weekend. The bad news is, they’re pretty much all cheap thrills! It will be interesting to see which of these flicks draws the biggest crowd. I think Notorious, Paul Blart: Mall Cop, and My Bloody Valentine 3-D all have a good shot at bringing down Clint Eastwood’s Gran Torino. Edward Zwick’s Defiance could also drum up some business now that it’s in wide release, and then there’s Dreamworks’ Hotel for Dogs, which may win based on cute factor alone! Weekend Box Office Estimates: “Mall Cop” Takes Top Spot… Again

Well, neither Underworld: Rise of the Lycans nor Inkheart were up to the task of unseating Paul Blart: Mall Cop from the #1 spot this weekend, and the Kevin James comedy stayed in first for a depressing second weekend in a row. The Underworld prequel came a close second, but Inkheart debuted all the way down in 7th, probably because most people weren’t even sure what it was about, let alone when it was opening.
