... you might remember from John August’s The Nines) and a screenplay co-written by Boston native Donnie Wahlberg, who also provides a small supporting performance. It’s certainly not this year’s The Departed, or even this year’s Gone Baby Gone, but hey, its probably worth checking out. And how can you go wrong with Mark Ruffalo and Ethan Hawke? Check out the trailer below.

Filmstalker —
BrianGoodman.jpg The film What Doesn't Kill You comes from the actor, writer and director Brian Goodman, a man you'll recognised when you see his face, and a man who has lived through many of the events in the film, for he wrote it based on what happened in his own life. Now the script has been made into a film with him at the helm, appearing it, and being portrayed by the great Mark Ruffalo with his brother-like friend being played by Ethan Hawke and his wife by Amanda Peet. Life doesn't seem that bad. It doesn't seem that bad, but then when you see this trailer you can feel how bad it was (even if it is dramatised). The trailer ...

... this time of
the South Boston variety. It's called
What Doesn't
Kill You - a title I really like for something like this - and
it's the semi-autobiographical film by writer-director
Brian Goodman
in which Hawke and
Mark Ruffalo play two lifelong friends who turn
to crime to make ends meet, but ultimately, their new lives threaten to tear
their real lives apart.

... lost in a haze of drugs and ‘jobs,’ even the love he has for his wife (Amanda Peet) and his children does not seem like it will be enough to redeem him. Meanwhile, Paulie plans “one last heist” but knows it will take both of them to pull it off. How can they escape the only life they know?
But after seeing the trailer, we think the above picture sums up the main conflict pretty well. Check it out underneath the cut…

What Doesn’t Kill You - Trailer
Movie Moron —
The first trailer for a remarkably under-the-radar semi-autobiographical thriller (try saying that sentence with a mouth full of peanuts) is online now and it looks rather good.
What Doesn’t Kill You is the story of writer/ director Brian Goodman, played here by Mark Ruffalo. Growing up on the tough streets of Boston with his best friend Paulie (Ethan Hawke), the two get involved with crime and, later, the law. After getting out, they vow to better their ...

... year's end, let alone stand a chance at Oscar. It's a bit of a shame only because Goodman seems like a really honest and genuine person. He received a standing ovation at TIFF and had to do everything in his powers to not break down and cry, the film is so personal to him (obviously). The film is set for a December 12 limited release in New York and L.A. to qualify for Oscars and then will probably see a wider release in January. ...

Awards Daily —
... Since Mark Ruffalo’s name appeared among the Best Actor nominees in yesterday’s Satellite Awards announcement, it seems appropriate to cover all the bases and post the trailer for What Doesn’t Kill You. The role looks meaty and the movie looks like the subplot of a subplot from The Departed. In a good way. ...

Killing In the Name (WHAT DOESN'T KILL YOU TRAILER)
THE DARK OF THE MATINEE —
At this year's Toronto International Film festival, one of the more emotional nights was the evening where WHAT DOESN'T KILL YOU premiered. The movie is the life story of actor/director Brian Goodman, and while it might well remind you of another movie or two you've seen lately, that doesn't make it any less potent or any less impressive. When it hits theatres, give it a look.
Ethan Hawke in What Doesn’t Kill You Trailer
Reel Suave —
... But Ruffalo and Hawke have done some really good performances with this movie. The editing and story is not really something to talk about. But I m still hoping it might turn out to be good because of the cast.
What Doesn’t Kill You is both co written and directed by actor turned filmmaker Brian Goodman. The story is based on some real life experiences. The film will be on limited release from December 12 th this year.
