Universal pictures is teaming up with Gore Verbinski to redo the thriller The Host. According to Variety, Fredrik Bond will direct the Bong Joon-Ho Korean thriller that has been penned by Mark Poirier. Story follows a town terrorized by a giant mutant squidlike creature hatched by toxins that flow into a nearby river from a military base. When the creature grabs a little girl, her dysfunctional family must band together to rescue her. Verbinski will produce with Vertigo's Roy Lee and Doug Davison, along with Paul Brooks. Unfortunately, Fox is not making an X-Babies movie. Yet. Instead, the studio is continuing the franchise with X-Men: First Class, a kind of New Mutants or Generation X-like spinoff that will probably capitalize on the risen stardom of Ellen Page, who played Shadowcat in X-Men: The Last Stand, rather than a reboot/origin story a la the First Class comic book. And with Josh Schwartz writing the screenplay, it should be like The O.C. and Gossip Girl, only with mutant superheroes.
