Just in case the big overseas opening for “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” didn’t sell you on its blockbuster potential, now we have the first wave of box office numbers to solidify what looks like it will be a huge opening haul. It's off to a good start for Michael Bay's "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," which launches at 4,226 locations in North America today.
According to the trades, the anticipated sequel to "Transformers" scored a solid $16 million from about 3,000 midnight screenings. Yeah, that's quite impressive indeed!
Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight" still holds the record with $18.5 million from midnight showings, but "Revenge of the Fallen" delivered the best ever midnight opening for a flick starting on a Wednesday.

Not sure why anyone would care at this point outside a few hardcore geeks, but Zack Snyder's director's cut of "Watchmen" will see a one-week theatrical release in July as per planned. Then again, the release is nicely timed, one week before Comic-Con when nerd herd fervor hits its summer peak. There's 25 minutes of additional footage which means a new running time of 3 hours and 13 minutes that will be screened in Los Angeles, Dallas, Minneapolis, and New York, prior to Comic-Con.
