Esquire Wasn't Kidding- Trailer For 'The Road' Tries To Sell Us Totally Fairly Different Movie
:: The Playlist :: —
... the film was going to emerge from the post-production process as a total lemon. This trailer, while being the antithesis of the cut we saw last year (which definitely had problems), certainly suggests there's more than a little dickery going on behind the scenes on the part of the Weinsteins. But then again, their job is to sell movies and we get that. We'll be able to judge for ourselves when "The Road" hits theaters on October 16th. ...

Bob Turnbull : “I was never bored or angry or even disappointed during The Brothers Bloom, but I left the picture wanting... Kevin Jones : Sorry but outside of Rachel Weisz’s great performance, which i do agree is the best thing about the film,... Matt Gamble : Ugg, I hated Weisz in this film. Her part is over written and over acted as Penelope bleeds quirk even more so... Kurt : Bloom is coming out in Toronto the following week, I believe. And 100% agreement on the Weisz thing. She totally brings... Amy : I liked it, its not perfect but i liked it. Rachel Weisz on the other hand is ...
WILL 'THE ROAD' LEAD TO ANOTHER DISASTER FILM DISASTER?
Reel Talk —
... while the devastated environment acts as a secondary element to enhance the plight of their situation. With every end-of-the-world film that hits theater, the genre becomes more and more laughable. Not everything in the movies has to be realistic, but if isn’t, the film has to make you believe it is. “The Road” looks like it has the necessary pieces placed in the correct position, but we won’t know for sure until it hits theaters in October.

TheRoad.jpg The trailer for The Road has premiered online and is available in high definition and it's looking pretty intense, although it doesn't give that much away about the film, something I like. It stars Viggo Mortensen as a man who has to travel with his son to the safety of the coast in a post apocalyptic world, and all the while protect them both from the dangers that lie between them and safety. Charlize Theron, Guy Pearce and Robert Duvall also star. The Road ...

THE DARK OF THE MATINEE —
Note: Go figure - I write one of my most popular and well thought-out entries to date, and the day I post it, a work re-shuffling drives my writing energy into the ground. Sorry for the lack of posts this week, and thanks for all the great feedback lately. - Hatter. There were a few disappointments for movie geeks like me last year - the sudden year-end love for THE READER, the lackluster adaptation of CHOKE, and the fact that cheap rehashes of 80's movies continue to be made. But nothing in 2008 was more disappointing for me, than the release date for THE ROAD getting unceremoniously pushed (worse yet - pushed to no certain ...

Movie Moron —
The Road Trailer The trailer for John Hillcoat’s adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s novel The Road has his the interwebs, and it’s viewable right here. The film looks suitably bleak and the performances look strong, but it’s hard not to feel that this is being marketed in a strange way, at least from this trailer…it seemed a little excessively fast paced, like a disaster movie or something. But whether the trailer does the film justice or not, there is no denying that the intense, brutal imagery is mesmeric. The film has recently gained positive buzz, being labelled by Esquire as the most important movie of the year. What with the ...

... digital backdrops. If they really want this to be one of the most gritty and dark post-apocalyptic movies to date, I’m hoping they’ll find a way to keep that stuff to a minimum. The good news is, Tom Chiarella over at Esquire recently called The Road “the most important movie of the year”, so there’s that to consider as well! The Road hits theatres on October 16th; check out the trailer below and see what you think.
FILMMAKER/APPLE PRESENTS MEET THE FILMMAKER: JOHN HILLCOAT
Filmmaker Magazine —
[image] Tonight at 7pm we will continue our Meet The Filmmaker series at the Apple Store in SoHo (103 Prince St) with a discussion with The Road director John Hillcoat . Based on the Cormac McCarthy best-selling novel, the film stars Viggo Mortensen and Kodi Smit-McPhee as a father and son trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. For the Fall 2008 issue we were granted an exclusive visit to Hillcoat's edit room to talk to him as he put the finishing touches on the film. “The material doesn‘t shy away from the worst aspects of humanity, yet what‘s unusual about it is that it also has a sentimental love story ...
