Variety reports that Peter Segal and Michael Ewing, his partner in Callahan Filmworks, have signed a three year first look deal with Warner Brothers. The main event here is that Segal and Ewing are bringing with them a John August scripted version of Captain Marvel. Segal will direct. Ewing and August have been working on the script for a while as it bounced around the studios, most notably the now -defunct New Line.
(btw, I find it unconscionably weird that Captain ‘Marvel’ is a DC Comics property. Shouldn’t it be a Marvel product? Oh well.)

The Captain Marvel film seems to finally be moving forward again, if this Variety item is anything to go by. Get Smart's Peter Segal has set a first-look deal at Warner Bros., and as part of the deal the studio acquired the John August-scripted Captain Marvel which Segel is still in line to direct. The film was originally set up at New Line, but we all remember what happened there, so Marvel fans will be relieved to know he's got a new studio to call home -- and one that all his DC friends are at. We’ve been teased about it for so long, but finally The Hollywood Reporter has confirmation that an Arrested Development movie is seriously happening. Series creator Mitch Hurwitz will write the screenplay and direct the film apparently with help from Ron Howard, who will also produce through Imagine Entertainment. Fox Searchlight will distribute.
