Spider-Man Spin-Off to Star Venom - UPDATE By Genevieve 'Scarletscribe' Blaber on April 8, 2009 [image] If you weren't happy with Spider-Man 3 um, was anybody? and its treatment of Venom, then you may have reason to rejoice. Sony has officially confirmed a Spider-Man spin-off focusing on none other than Venom himself. Hired to helm the script is the writing team from Zombieland , Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Unfortunately, there isn't much to say about the movie this early in the game. Wernick says that the pair is basically sworn to secrecy about the project, but they did confirm that they were big fans of the character and ...

This isn't much of an update on the highly anticipated Venom spin-off, which was spurred by Spidey's dark nemesis appearing in Spider-Man 3; but being that I got to spend some time with screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick ...
“Venom” Writers Tell…A Little
At The Movies - Film News and Reviews —
Hey…who’s in that Venom suit?
ComingSoon interviewed Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick about their upcoming film “Zombieland,” but got the writing team to talk a little bit about their work on the script for “Venom,” the bad guy Marvel character who’s getting his own movie.
Venom made an appearance in the much-lamented “Spider-Man 3.” Set all your criticisms of that movie aside for a minute and let the beleaguered baddie start over. Hey, it’s not often that a villain nabs the title role, right?
Needless to say, Reese and Wernick ...
Venom Movie Takes Shape But Still A Bit Formless
Film School Rejects —
From beneath the muck of Hollywood the Venom movie arises. But the comic-book villain hasn’t broken the surface quite yet. Film School Rejects learned that Coming Soon probed writers Rhett Reese’s and Paul Wernick’s brains on the set of their upcoming horror-comedy Zombieland, starring Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg, and Abigail Breslin. They’re pumped to be writing the screenplay and have submitted a draft to Sony and Marvel. The two companies are approaching the Venom story seriously imposing what Wernick dubs the “47 rules.”
For fans, that could ...
Will the Venom film work?
Filmstalker —
Venom.jpg I've been reading about the Venom film for a little while now and I still can't seem to get anything from it that sounds exciting. Yes Venom is a cool character and is great for battling Spider-Man, mainly as he shows the darker side of Spider-Man, but as a stand alone character in his own film? The writers have been talking about developing the character into a full film and the reality seems that they are a long way off the final movie and there's a hint that they are having to compromise with two studios already. The story that Venom ...
Daily news dose: 'Year One' gets PG-13; Neeson, Fiennes join 'Clash of the Titans'
The Screening Log —
Here's your dose of film news for April 11, 2009:
• Harold Ramis' upcoming comedy "Year One" finally received a PG-13 rating following some cuts, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The film stars Michael Cera and Jack Black as lazy hunter-gatherers banished from their village. I saw the trailer a couple of times and never laughed once, so I will walk into this one with the lowest possible expectations. It looks terrible.
• Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes are set to star in Louis Leterrier's "Clash of the Titans." Neeson plays Zeus, father of Perseus (Sam Worthington), while ...
Newsbites: The Marvel Comics edition!
FilmChat —
1. Just as comic books sometimes come out with multiple covers, to take advantage of the collectors who absolutely must buy each and every version, so too there are at least two different versions of X-Men Origins: Wolverine out there, each with a different "Easter egg" at the end that will "push the storyline forward." Fans who want to see both versions will have to pay to see the movie twice -- or they could wait for YouTube, I guess. Expect to see the studio's lawyers playing whack-a-mole with that and other online video sites over the weekend. -- Patrick Goldstein (x2), FirstShowing.net, ...
