Here's what Nikki Finke is saying today: "The Academy Awards is going international with its emcee choice -- Australian actor Hugh Jackman, star of X-Men, Australia, and the upcoming Wolverine, as well as People Magazine's 2008 "Sexiest Man Alive". But, and it's a BIG but [ed. - Mmhmm], while the 40-year-old Sydney-born thesp of English parentage has received the AMPAS offer and is very interested, I'm told that he's not yet fully committed. Oscar Host: Jackman?
TheBadandUgly.com —
... DHD reports that the deal has yet to be sealed, because Jackman’s camp wants a solid idea of what is expected of their client, especially in the show’s opener. An unnamed source, when asked if Jackman will be doing an opening monologue, said: “I don’t want that for him…He is an actor with big movies behind him and one coming this summer. He didn’t work the last 20 years to suddenly be a stand-up comedian.” ...
Hugh Jackman to Host the Oscars?
RopeofSilicon.com —
The idea Ricky Gervais may host the Oscars was something that really intrigued me, but that was for not. Now Nikki Finke is reporting an offer has gone out to Hugh Jackman to host the big event. Okay, that doesn't bother me. To be honest I don't watch the Oscars for the jokes or the musical sidebars, I actually have grown to enjoy watching the awards themselves get handed out so why would I care who is up there announcing the next presenters? ...
Hugh Jackman is Hosting This Year's Oscars!
FirstShowing.net —
... that the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences wanted someone "way outside the box" to host the Oscars, and now today, multiple reports have come flooding in naming the new host - Hugh Jackman. While he's not a comedian, Jackman is probably the best damn choice I could've ever imagined, as he's literally one of the greatest actors and greatest people on this planet. Deadline Hollywood was the first to break the news, and mentions that Jackman won't take the job unless there aren't jokes, as we reported yesterday. ...
Comedy, Perhaps Not Tonight
Carpetbagger —
Hugh Jackman, named today as the host of the 81st Academy Awards, knows his way around song-and-dance numbers, as his time emceeing the Tonys (not to mention his Broadway starring turns) has shown. But comic monologues: not so much. So it’s perhaps not much of a surprise that Mr. Jackman, who is one of the stalwarts of the X-Men franchise and had well-reviewed turns in “The Prestige” and “Kate and Leopold,” is not expected to be called upon to crack wise , according to Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood Daily: One segment of the show which reps for Jackman are objecting to ...

He Sings, He Dances, He Will Tell Jokes
Carpetbagger —
Nikki Finke got a nice bit of scoop on Friday , revealing that Hugh Jackman will host the Oscars. She relates that Mr. Jackman’s people don’t want him sullying himself with a joke-telling monologue. To the Bagger’s ears, that’s Oscars sacrilege. You have to have jokes. You can’t enjoy the sight of the big parade balloon of the Oscars unless someone lets a bit of air out of it over the course of the evening. And as the clip above demonstrates, Mr. Jackman can tell a joke or two in a pinch.
