My movie, my friend
I wonder what I would think of Milk if I weren't gay. Probably not very much, actually. I'm cynical enough to dislike pop culture that aligns with my ideals if the outcome is muddled or overly broad (like Crash or...

my new plaid pants — ... --- Split Milk - Even though I'm still not sold on the quality of Gus Van Sant's Milk, it has been weighing on my mind all week. Mostly it's just been about the guilt I feel because of my lukewarm reaction though, and not any real reassessment of the film itself. FourFour reviewed the film today and as usual, Rich says things good. One choice bit: ...

No soy, I'll have the real stuff
Mostly Movies — Milk preaches to the choir, but the choir needs to hear. (FourFour/Humanizing the Vacuum) I think that has a little to do with the self-hatred in gays that can keep us from understanding ourselves and those who made our present conditions possible (meager as they may seem), but it also has to do with not being given very much to work with. Milk Review
movieblog.ugo.com 11/26/2008 — Like a good many film biographies, Milk reduces the struggles of its subject - gay-rights activist Harvey Milk (Sean Penn) - to a mostly inoffensive checklist. It’s a dispassionate piece of work that I suspect will have the firebrand emotion it so ...
Review: Milk
cinematical.com 12/1/2008 — Milk is a well-intentioned film, but it's also well-made, and it never confuses nobility of purpose with narrative direction. It's full of inspiration and aspiration, but at the same time, it never kids itself -- or us -- about the tricky, twisty ...
