Newsbites: The sequels and prequels edition!
FilmChat — ... Supposedly, this will be a "family film", though I'm not sure what sort of "family film" could have Nemo as its main character; in the original film, it was not James Mason's revenge-seeking captain that we were supposed to identify with primarily, but the Paul Lukas, Peter Lorre and Kirk Douglas characters who were almost killed by him. The new film will be written by Bill Marsilli (Deja Vu) and directed by McG (Terminator: Salvation). -- Variety 2. Olivia Wilde says the makers of ...

McG directing 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Filmstalker — ... to look rather strong but has yet to be released, McG is already cashing in on the notoriety and has his next directorial job lined up, that of directing a remake of Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. McG Heads '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea'
Cinematical — Almost three years ago, there was word that New Line was going to remake 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea -- Disney's first live-action film that starred Kirk Douglas and James Mason. In 2007, Sam Raimi said he was looking over scripts (as producer, not director), and then nothing. The project just seemed to fade away. Well, while there's no remake on the immediate horizon, Variety reports that we are going to get an origin story courtesy of Disney and helmed by McG. The project is called 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo, and will (obviously) feature Nemo as he creates the ...

The Devil and the Nautilus
Hollywood Elsewhere — The Devil and the Nautilus Nobody wants to see a shot-for-shot, concept-copying remake of the old 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea , but with McG at the helm of Nemo , a new version of the Jules Verne novel, it can be safely assumed that the stuff that worked in the 1954 Disney version will be either ignored or vulgarized beyond recognition. But it's a good thing, at least, that McG has been consigned to the family-film ghetto. Keep him there.
