Universal has purchased the exclusive rights to the Jason Bourne character and first look rights to other Robert Ludlam novels. According to Variety the deal will pave the way for more installments of the popular spy series. After the first three films grossed a total of more than $1 billion worldwide, U signed Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass for a fourth film that George Nolfi is penning. Produced by Frank Marshall and Ludlum Entertainment chairman-CEO Jeffrey Weiner, the film will be readied for a summer 2010 release. Universal Studios - you may have heard of them - have officially purchased the rights to almost every novel Robert “Bourne” Ludlum ever wrote in his life.
Clearly not satisfied with making over a mere billion dollars with the Bourne trilogy (to become quadrology by 2010), the uber-studio has now bought all the remaining works of the thriller writer, as well as the character of Jason Bourne. They’re clearly creating a monster.
