Earlier today, Hollywood Elsewhere posted news that Josh Brolin was in talks to play Jonah Hex in an adaptation of the DC Comic. Tonight, Variety reports that it’s close to a done deal.
Jonah Hex is a gunslinger and “part-time bounty hunter.” He’s notable for his disfigured face and partiality for Confederate uniforms. Hex first appeared in the 1970s in the All-Star Westerns series before winning a solo gig. The character has been through several relaunches, most recently in 2005. DC Comics' Harvey Dent-ish Old West bounty hunter Jonah Hex may be played by aging Goonie Josh Brolin in a big-screen adaptation written and directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor ("Crank"). A veteran of the Confederate army, the surly, whiskey-swilling Hex made his funnybook debut in a 1972 issue of All-Star Western. He lost a good hunk of his face to a hot Apache tomahawk. Josh Brolin looks to have closed a deal to play Jonah Hex, according to Variety. Created by John Albano and Tony DeZuniga, the DC Comics anti-hero is an American Civil War veteran with scars covering the right side of his face. He was an officer for the Confederacy during the American Civil War, fought at Gettysburg and is normally shown wearing a tattered Confederate States Army jacket. Crank duo Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor wrote and will direct Jonah Hex for Warner Bros.

Variety brings the word that Josh “W.” Brolin may take the lead in the film adaptation of Jonah Hex. Script and screen duties are being helmed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor (Crank) and there is, of course, inevitable backing from Warner Brothers.
But Brolin won’t confirm and to be honest, why bother? If you’re unfamiliar with Hex, he’s DC Comics’ scarred Western anti-hero that focused more on pulp than on costume and tights.
