Guillermo del Toro Spills on "The Hobbit"
Film Gecko —
Guillermo del Toro was at the Director’s Guild of America tonight in midtown Manhattan as part of The New Yorker Festival series of talks. During a conversation with New Yorker staff writer Daniel Zalewski, del Toro talked up some of his future projects, including the two-film adaptation of The Hobbit and an upcoming remake of Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein.”
Some tidbits (he sounds like a kid in a candy store when talking about his upcoming projects - and isn’t it funny that he and Peter Jackson look like twins separated at birth?):

Guillermo del Toro Discusses The Hobbit
Movies - Spoilers —
"I find you have to discipline yourself to write in the morning, and then watch and read in the afternoons stuff that seems relevant, even in a tangential way. For example, reading or watching World War I documentaries or books that I think inform 'The Hobbit,' strangely enough, because I believe it is a book born out of Tolkien's generation's experience with World War I and the disappointment of being in that field and seeing all those values kind of collapse. I think it's a turning point that you need to familiarize yourself with. I'm starting. Peter Jackson is such a fan of that historical moment and ...
Guillermo Being Guillermo (and that’s del Toro, btw)
At The Movies - Film News and Reviews —
Getting a comment about his films from Guillermo del Toro is like pulling teeth…out of butter.
ComingSoon has coverage of Guillermo del Toro’s talk at the New Yorker Festival this weekend (CS nicely refers to him as Guillermo “I’m making The Motherf****** ‘Hobbit’” del Toro) and as we all know, Guillermo being Guillermo means a wealth of chattiness and as much information as he can give away without the suits fainting.
So Guillermo, want to tell us anything about your prep for The Hobbit?
“I find you have to discipline ...
Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein is Not The Traditional Creation Story
/Film —
I’m not sure Guillermo del Toro will ever get to make his big screen adaptation of Frankenstein. After the director tackles The Hobbit films, he will return to a dining room filled with overflowing plates of projects he has already committed to. And the fact of the matter is that this horror remake is probably one of the least interesting projects on his slate is a testament of the quality of films del Toro has in development. But that doesn’t stop me from geeking out when I read quotes (this one via ComingSoon) of del Toro teasing his version of the classic ...
Guillermo del Toro Talks Frankenstein

Guillermo del Toro Talks Frankenstein toro_frankenstein.jpg Out of all the projects Guillermo del Toro is attached to direct, Frankenstein has to be the one I’m excited about the most. Sure, he’s set to direct two Hobbit films, and I have no doubt he’ll do a great job, but his unique visionary style mixed with one of the classic movie monsters of all time seems like a match made in heaven. Coming Soon ...
Guillermo del Toro Won’t Go Topless for ‘Frankenstein’
Film School Rejects —
Since we here at FSR have the uncanny ability to predict the news cycle, we put the spotlight on the 1931 classic Frankenstein as part of our 31 Days of Horror and our weekly Old Ass Movies Feature. Turns out that just last night, fanboy favorite Guillermo del Toro was discussing his adaptation of the literary classic in front of a DGA crowd in New York City.
Comingsoon.net reports that the director talked in detail about the creative process he’s engaged in to create the world of his “Hobbit” adaptation, discussed his obsession with dragons, and revealed some info on his take on ...
Guillermo del Toro Talks to Dragons
Cinema Blend News —
Guillermo del Toro Talks to Dragons Since Guillermo del Toro dropped Pans Labyrinth on us in O6, everyone has been dying to work with him
and have him adapt the classics closest to their heart? With his increasingly questionable adaptations of the beloved characters of the Hellboy characters, how will Hobbit fans fare if he takes their little Frodo where they dont want to follow? Del Toro recently attended the New Yorker Festival in Manhattan, and spoke with Daniel Zalewski, from The New Yorker on the topic of inspiration, dragon dialogue, and WWI. Coming Soon ...
Guillermo del Toro Shares Updates on The Hobbit and Frankenstein
FirstShowing.net —
Guillermo del Toro doesn't ever really need an introduction. If you're even remotely a fan of movies, you know of the guy. And if you're fan of good movies (e.g. Pan's Labyrinth), he's probably on your list of favorite directors. Either way, the creative mastermind behind the Hellboy ...
Guillermo del Toro Talks About 'Hobbit', 'Frankenstein'
Cinematical —
The reason everyone loves Guillermo del Toro can, I think, be summed up in this new Hobbit related quote. "Believe me, I am jumping up-and-down inside this fat body!" Yes, del Toro teased us all with Hobbit talk when he appeared at the Director's Guild of America recently and spilled all kinds of information regarding Middle Earth and his adaptation of Frankenstein. ComingSoon has the whole delicious thing, but I'll post my favorite bit -- his research into the mind of J.R.R. Tolkien: "I find you have to discipline yourself to write in the morning, and then watch and read in the ...
Johnny Depp To Get Paid $56 Million For McPirate 4: Extra Nacho Cheese
:: The Playlist :: —
This time with 25% more nacho cheese flavor, Johnny Depp is apparently being paid $500 trillion dollars to appear in 'Pirates 4' for Disney. Ok, it's only $56 million, reportedly, but still that's a shitload of dough. Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley are expected to not sign on for the fourth edition cause they rather act they be a McFranchise and we can't say we blame them.[DailyMail] Speaking of something Johnny Depp will appear in, Anne ...
Guillermo Del Toro Talks Frankenstein
Movie Moron —
Guillermo Del Toro must now officially be the busiest man in Hollywood. He has projects lined up, back-to-back, until 2017. Of the projects he’s currently working on, the one that really caught my eye (seeing as I’m a sucker for all things horror-related) was a remake/reimagining of the 1931 classic ‘Frankenstein’.
Lucky for me then, that at a recent meeting with the Director’s Guild of America, Del Toro was heard to spill the beans as to what kind of direction he would be taking the film. Amid lots of talk about his upcoming Hobbit adaptation ...
