Cast coming together for the Coen Bros' TRUE GRIT.
Crimespree Cinema —
Back in March, word came out that Joel and Ethan Coen were going to remake TRUE GRIT. But rather than follow directly in the footsteps of The Duke, the plan is to revisit the source novel by Charles Portis and stay closer to that, instead of the John Wayne film. Now, we have some news regarding the cast and it is sounding pretty good. Jeff Bridges is slated to play Rooster Cogburn (John Wayne originally), with Matt Damon will be playing La Boeuf (Glen Campbell), Cogburn's partner in the hunt. Josh Brolin is Tom Chaney (Jeff Chaney), the man Le Boeuf ...

Josh Brolin: good guy, bad guy.
Variety reports that Matt Damon and Josh Brolin are in talks to join the cast of the Coen brothers “reimagining” of the 1969 film “True Grit.” Jeff Bridges has already been cast as Rooster Cogburn, the role which won John Wayne.
The Coens plan for their new version to be more of a new film of the original book “True Grit” by Charles Portis than a remake of the first film. Damon would play a lawman who teams with Cogburn and a 14-year old girl to track her father’s killer into hostile Indian territory. Brolin is up for the role of the killer. As you no doubt remember, his ...

Damon, Brolin might have TRUE GRIT?
gordonandthewhale.com —
The idea of the Coen brothers remaking TRUE GRIT is just odd to me. The film-making duo that have given us so many great original films, including the most recent A SERIOUS MAN, remaking anything right now makes me wonder why? Technically, the film is said to be a re-imaging but the notion is still strange.
The original TRUE GRIT, released in 1969, followed a Texas Ranger and a U.S. Marshal as they aided a woman by trying to track down her father’s murderer, deep in Indian territory. It had a star studded cast including John Wayne, Robert Duvall, Dennis Hopper and Kim Darby.
It looks like the Coens are trying to assemble their own star studded cast ...

... Got Grit - Looks like the Coen Bros next movie really will be that remake of True Grit. I have never seen the original film, for the record, unless it counts possibly being subjected to it when I was young and my father was always watching John Wayne movies therefore giving me a phobia of all John Wayne movies for the rest of my life. Although I do love The Searchers, like any reasonable film student. Aaaaanyway Variety's telling us Matt Damon and Josh Brolin are in talks to star. ...

It's the mid-week report of the good, bad and you-know-what-the-what here, as we compile the movie news from the past week and a half. Yes, you'll have more at the end of the week—but for now, let us all cringe together as we see stomach news of the 2012 motion sickness experience, an MIB without Will Smith, and the audacity of some people to shoot a barely visible topless scene and hype it up like it was Basic Instinct 3.
