I've had my fill of the publishing industry in movies. Realizing that many of the movies that take place at a newspaper or a magazine are based on books so a lot of that can't be helped, we still see an awful lot of New York femme-based journalism between Sex and the City, The Devil Wears Prada, Ugly Betty, The Women, and now, Confessions of a Shopaholic. ...

The Box is a horror tale starring Cameron Diaz and James Marsden so I really have no idea what to expect, but I like to imagine it's something akin to the blue box storyline from David Lynch's Mulholland Drive extended to 100 minutes. Or we may never know, considering how many times it has been shifted around. 48. Confessions of a Shopaholic (dir. PJ Holden) Perhaps the most likely title on this list ...

Movie Review - 'Confessions of a Shopaholic'
Get The Big Picture —
... Confessions of a Shopaholic sounds like a funny title, but seriously, the girl's got issues. Rebecca Bloomwood - a name that simply belongs in the movies - owes thousands upon thousands of dollars. She lives rent-free with her best friend because she can't pay all the bills and swing the credit cards, too. She lies to important people about unimportant things, and worse, about important things, all because she has a compulsion. Replace booze with shoes, and it's like Leaving Louis Vuitton. ...

Friday the 13th earned about four times as much as anything else, and its big opening day was certainly a surprise. More than likely, it's one of those movie that will have a huge first day and taper off after that; I think it's unlikely that the numbers would go up from $19 million.

. Taken continues to amaze me. Without real star power, the Liam Neeson revenge flick has lost 18% of its audience from the first to the second weekends and an absurd 6% in its third stanza. The average drop is somewhere between 25 - 35% on the second weekend, and a little less than that the next.

Confessions Of A Person Who Watched (And Kinda Mostly Enjoyed) Confessions of a Shopaholic
my new plaid pants —
... Alright, not quite where Shopaholic is concerned. But only on a couple of occasions did this movie make my brain hurt. It's terribly formulaic - I could've scrawled out the entire story on a napkin before the credits were even over - but seeing the mood I was in yesterday that was sorta what I was looking for. What make it work is PJ Hogan's sublime casting - there isn't a single face in this crowd that I disliked. Imagine this movie in the hands of say... Kate Hudson. Shudder. ...

... other movie I've seen in the theatre in '09 was the excrable Bride Wars . Did any of you unfortunates who also saw it note the frequent Candace Bergen-narrated montage sequences shot in a style approaching tilt-shift photography ? As though those shallow young women could seem any smaller or more petty. Worse still, though, were the trailers that ran before Bride Wars for other "movies" I could be presumed to like: He's Just Not That Into You , Confessions of a Shopaholic , New in Town , and All About Steve . Let’s see if I can keep it up, shall we? Sure, the fact that I cant really tell you the last time I saw a movie stings, but whatever. Kinsella created a tragically comedic character which we shake our heads at because we’ll never be as bad off as she is (or so we hope). I guess if you really stretched it, you could dig a message out of the stories but frankly, they’re not worth the bother. I had hoped the same to be true of the movie adaption but somewhere in the middle of Confessions of a Shopaholic ’s 100 minute run time, I went from complacency to anger. Why is it ...
