HarryGeorgatos Why Charlize Theron forwent THE TOURIST is a question hanging in the back of my mind. With the director of the German film THE LIVES OF OTHERS would have been a no-brainer. That film is a sophisticated piece of cold war paranoia in East Berlin. It's a film similar to Coppola's masterpiece in THE CONVERSATION. THE TOURIST would have been a smart spy film with this particular director. Angelina Jolie would be a better replacement then Theron. With Jolie in the lead expect better box-office. With serious spy films such as THE GOOD SHEPHERD to the upcoming SALT and the popcorn spy movies of MR AND MRS SMITH to WANTED Jolie is probaly the best female actor in Hollywood spy movies.

Though two actors and a director have now left THE TOURIST, if Jolie does end up signing on to the project, at least Theron’s withdrawal won’t lead to a downgrade in the actress department.
