Hey folks, Harry here - and By Hemdale's Eyes - this is truly magnificent news... Kenneth Branagh directing a huge budget THOR movie for release in 2010... it's just tremendous. Mark Protosevich's script is amazing - and Branagh is perfect. I've been a bit sad ever since the loss of Matthew Vaughn on this project... the last Marvel project he exited was handed to the incapable RATner - and I was fearing something equally traumatic, but it seems Feige is pulling it together and has placed the power of creation in Branagh's overly capable hands. Go back and watch HENRY V by Branagh - that budget was the size of the catering on this film - I can't really fathom ...

Cinema Blend News —
Kenneth Branagh May Direct Thor Kenneth Branagh may be the next auteur to sell his soul to the world of superhero movies. Variety says hes negotiating with Marvel Studios to direct their Thor movie. Ive never been much of a Branagh fan, I know thats not particularly film-criticy of me, but hes just never done anything for me. Maybe Im a drunken lout, but give me Mel Gibsons Shakespeare over Branagh. Still, the guy obviously has a lot of fans, so I went to one of them, a friend of mine from Austin who had this to say about him taking on Thor : If its like his Shakespeare stuff, yay! If its like his other stuff, WHY GOD WHY! Well said ...

Thor, As You Like It. Trade Roughage 09/29/08
SpoutBlog —
As expected, Eagle Eye came in at #1 at the box office over the weekend with $29.2 million, and as speculated, adult moviegoing was down Friday because of the presidential debate. The real box office news, though, is the success of the Christian-themed Fireproof, which came in at #4 with $6.5 mil. despite playing on fewer than 1,000 screens. Especially interesting because another seemingly red-state-geared (though definitely more blue-state-friendly) limited release, The Lucky Ones, opened to a tiny fraction of that amount ($209,000) on only half as many screens.
In one of the best ideas ...
Kenneth Branagh may direct Marvel’s ‘Thor’
The Screening Log —
It’s likely the biggest news of the day: Kenneth Branagh is in talks to direct Marvel Comics’ big-screen adaptation of “Thor,” according to Variety. The film, written by Mark Protosevich, follows partially disabled medical student Donald Blake, who discovers he has an alter ego as the powerful Norse warrior Thor. Branagh is indeed a quite surprising pick, especially because we haven’t really seen him direct a big-budget Hollywood blockbuster. His most recent directorial effort was “Sleuth.” The trade said Marvel would soon announce a distributor for the project, which is expected to hit theaters ...

Kenneth Branagh Will Direct Thor?
TheBadandUgly.com —
We now know who Marvel Studios wants to helm the God of Thunder pic, and we have to say that it’s pretty damn surprising. Considering most things we’ve seen (and enjoyed, because we’re geeks) from Branagh have been his overly ambitious forays into Shakespeare…

Kenneth Branagh In Talks To Direct “Thor”
Hollywoodtuna —
... Variety is reporting that Kenneth Branagh is in talks to direct Marvel’s live-action Thor, scheduled to hit theaters in 2010. The move by Marvel is a surprising one, considering Branagh is best known for his Shakespeare adaptations - and this is a whole different set of tights. Still, it continues a recent trend of putting arthouse directors behind the camera for superhero fare (Christopher Nolan, Wolverine’s Gavin Hood), and hopefully the results will be just as ...
