Raging Seas
Hollywood Elsewhere —
Raging Seas Australia director Baz Luhrmann has described the frenetic last-minute editing process of his film to The Australian 's Christine Jackman thusly: "We always thought it was extremely precarious. We're going to give it our all and at the moment 11.256 is an absolutely real date. But I would not be truthful if I didn't say it's a little like landing a jumbo jet on an aircraft carrier in a storm ." Jackman likens Luhrmann's situation to "living in a mental asylum, and the clock is ticking. "Across the globe in another time zone, studio executives are chewing ...
25 Days Until Australia Opens...
Film Experience Blog —
... suggests that the final running time is nearly 3 hours. More alarming is the news that there's apparently still no final print. I'm no great fan of the marathon movie and I always worry about rushed post-production but I still can't wait. About that three hour running time: With Baz working his mojo, Hugh all heroic and Nicole in period finery I suspect it will fly by. Especially because that killjoy voice in the back of my head keeps reminding me that we're not going to get Bazmark's next film until at least 2013, you know? I suppose good things come to those who ...
Where Has Baz Luhrmann's Australia Been Hiding?
FirstShowing.net —
... , a little over three weeks from now. But no one is criticizing 20th Century Fox over their lack of marketing for Baz Luhrmann's Australia, even though it hits theaters the exact same day. Why is this? Because the film isn't done yet. I had heard some mention from within the studio that this was the case, but Christine Jackman at The Australian confirmed it. Fox doesn't yet know the official running time, something between two hours and 30 and 40 minutes (about the same as The Curious Case of Benjamin Button).
Here's a batch of advance press from Australia:
The Australian

'Australia' Given a New Ending?
Cinematical —
... , they say Fox insists Luhrmann has the final cut, and his vision is being respected. If the ending has been changed, it's because he wanted to change it. So there's both sides, and I guess we'll be able to put two and two together after we see the film. To add a little extra credence to this story, the fact that The Australian was reporting as of Halloween that the film still wasn't done suggests the ending could be one of the final difficulties. The Guardian only mentions a rewrite, and not a reshoot, so let's hope they filmed some alternate ...
