Hey folks, Harry here... I fucking love 2000 AD. When it burst onto the comic scene, it was unlike anything I'd ever seen... and when Stallone was signed to play Judge Dredd... I was so fucking excited... And then the movie sucked sewer sludge and I wept... alot... cuz I felt so many people had seen this and just felt that the source material must be lame too... and it is not! 2000 AD is friggin greatness! And the production company behind SUNSHINE and 28 WEEKS LATER. According to an announcement on 2000 AD’s message boards (via AICN), DNA films, along with Rebellion and and 2000 AD, have greenlit a new Judge Dredd film. According to the Rebellion’s CEO and Creative Director, “We can’t give away too many details at this point, but we’re looking forward to working with DNA Films to bring Judge Dredd back to the big screen.” Production is scheduled to begin in 2009.

This may just be a big nasty rumor, but the folks over at 2000 AD have apparently gotten some confirming words from those in charge. The production of a “new” Judge Dredd will be led by Rebellion in cooperation with DNA Films, whose work includes the great recent sci-fi film ‘Sunshine’ and the moderately successful horror sequel ‘28 Weeks Later’. ... for such a project is definitely outnumbered by people who either have never heard of Judge Dredd or remember hating Sylvester Stallone and Rob Schneider in Judge Dredd 1995 edition (see: Punisher). Even if they get their first choice for the lead (surely Jason Statham), I don't see this working out. But feel free to prove me wrong, 2000 AD. Make me believe one man in the post-apocalyptic future can be judge, jury, AND executioner while wearing large shoulder pads.
